Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports is reporting that San Diego has renewed interest in trading Jake Peavy to either the NY Yankees or LA Angels.  This comes as a result of the news that the Atlanta Braves have decided to discontinue negotiating with the Padres.

“We have moved on,” Braves general manager Frank Wren told FOXSports.com on Friday. “We had our last discussion with San Diego yesterday and let them know that if the final names we were discussing wouldn’t get it done, we would move on to other opportunities, other possibilities.”

According to FOXSports, the Braves were offering a slew of prospects.  Shortstop Yunel Escobar, either right-hander Charlie Morton or left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes, and Class A outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, plus a possible fourth player.

The Chicago Cubs still remain interested in Peavy and are attempting to work out a deal with Padres General Manager Kevin Towers.  Towers did tell the San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday that he would be interested in dealing Peavy to the Yankees or Angels if a deal could not be worked out with the Cubs or Braves.

Peavy has a no trade clause and has indicated his desire to pitch for an NL club because he enjoys hitting.  He has mentioned several times that he does not want to pitch for the Yankees.  Nonetheless, the Yankees Brass will always find a way to get what they want.  If they want Peavy bad enough, don’t be surprised to see Brian Cashman throw some money at him to get him happy and in pinstripes next season.  But, don’t forget that the Yankees will still need to give up players to the Padres.  My guess would be an outfielder such as Xavier Nady or Brett Gardner, and a pitcher such as Ian Kennedy or Phil Hughes as well as a 1-3 Minor Leaguers.
